Technique Overview

This instructional focuses on chaining three techniques into a continuous sequence: the Russian two-on-one grip, a sacrifice throw, and the bulldog choke. The Russian two-on-one and bulldog choke are covered in detail in separate instructional videos. This lesson emphasizes the mechanics of transitioning between these techniques and executing the throw itself.

Initial Setup and Entry

When the opponent establishes a collar tie, the instructor counters by securing a Russian two-on-one grip. The hand controlling the Russian two-on-one will later transition into the choking arm. This grip provides the foundation for both the throw and the submission that follows.

Lateral Drop Mechanics

The instructor sits up behind the opponent and positions for a lateral drop sacrifice throw. A butterfly hook is established on one of the opponent's legs to control their base. The instructor then elevates and accelerates the opponent's rotation over the hook, creating momentum for the throw.

Transition to Bulldog Choke

As the opponent rotates, the controlling arm from the Russian two-on-one loops around the neck. The instructor sits out in front while securing the bulldog choke position. Against larger opponents, this technique may result in a jaw crank or neck crank as the arm placement becomes compromised.

Russian Two-on-One Grip Details

When the opponent reaches for a collar tie, the instructor strips this grip and moves the head inside to control the opponent's arm. Most opponents will pull their arm inward to prevent straightening. The instructor then secures a C-grip on the wrist while feeding their fist under their own wrist to create a torsion knot.

Grip Maintenance and Control

The torsion knot grip tightens as the opponent squeezes or pulls back. This creates a secure handle that allows the instructor to drag and control the opponent's position. The grip remains solid throughout the throw and subsequent submission attempt.

Throw Execution and Follow-Up

From the secured two-on-one grip, the instructor sits out behind the opponent and performs a lateral drop. The opponent can be rolled to the floor, and the instructor climbs on top. The arm controlled throughout the throw can be extended into an armlock or abandoned for a neck submission.

Alternative Finish: Bulldog Figure Four

If the opponent begins pulling out on the opposite side, the instructor can transition to a bulldog choke or bulldog figure four choke. The butterfly hook is maintained while the arm repositions around the opponent's neck. Against smaller opponents, a rear-naked-choke-style grip can be applied for additional security.

Reactive Adaptation

When the opponent continues rolling through the throw, the instructor abandons the initial controlling grip and reaches around the head. The bulldog choke position is achieved mid-transition. Proper positioning allows substantial pressure to be applied, often resulting in immediate submission.

Another video in my series on takedowns that lead directly to fight ending submissions. I got a few questions about how to do this one: Russian two on one (aka: Russian tie up) to a sacrifice throw with a butterfly hook, to a Bulldog choke. Here’s an old video I made on the details of the Bulldog choke (and the important differences between a Bulldog choke and a side headlock) https://youtu.be/Ix18stM_yAI Here’s a video I made on the details of this variation of the Russian two on one: https://youtu.be/23Gh1slBD08 Here’s a link to my video about 15 takedowns that lead to instant submissions: https://youtu.be/l4UxWbvifYI Do you like the rashguards I use in my videos?
