Introduction

This is the second tutorial in the back kick series, following the previous seated position practice. The instructor and assistant are prepared to demonstrate the technique using proper stance and wall support.

Starting Position and Body Rotation

Begin in fighting stance with the kicking leg (in this case, the right leg) positioned beside the wall. Rotate the body 180 degrees to face the opposite direction, establishing the proper alignment for the back kick.

Shoulder Control and Hand Placement

Place the hand of the non-kicking side against the wall with the arm locked to control shoulder movement. This prevents excessive shoulder opening during the kick, which compromises both form and power. Maintaining a straight shoulder line is critical for proper technique.

Target Acquisition and Chamber Position

Look back over the shoulder to identify the target while chambering the knee as high as possible. The knee chamber is essential for generating power and maintaining control, as discussed in the first back kick video.

Execution and Leg Alignment

Execute the kick by extending the leg straight backward while maintaining slight contact between the kicking leg and support leg. This contact prevents the knee from flaring outward and ensures the force travels directly backward, maximizing the kick's power and effectiveness.

Slow Motion Practice Sequence

Practitioners should perform the technique slowly in sequence: body rotation, shoulder lock, target acquisition, knee chamber, and extension. Repetition at controlled speed builds muscle memory and allows for form refinement.

Full-Speed Execution

After mastering the slow-motion technique, advance to full-speed practice. Proper timing and explosive power are achieved through consistent repetition at combat speed.

Power Generation Through Ground Push

The final critical tip involves pushing forcefully against the ground immediately before the kick. This explosive push from the supporting leg transfers energy through the hips and into the kicking leg, significantly increasing the strike's power.
