Essential Book of Martial Arts Kicks (De Bremaeker & Faige, 2010)

Requires solid hook kick foundation
Good balance and coordination
Documented in De Bremaeker & Faige, Section 5.9. The author's personal favorite: 'This variation... together with the bent-body hook kick, has brought me the bulk of my tournament points!' The bent body lowers the kicker's profile while the hook kick arcs from an unexpected angle. (De Bremaeker & Faige, Essential Book of Martial Arts Kicks, 2010, p. 199)
Power comes from the hips and shoulders. When delivering strikes, you need to engage both the hips and shoulders together, turning them in coordination to generate force.
When you turn your hips, turn your shoulders as well so they align at 12 and 6 (front-to-back alignment). At the extension of your strike, your shoulder and chin should be connected for proper form and protection.
Engage and twist your rear foot through as you execute the strike. This foot rotation works in coordination with your hip and shoulder movement to drive power into the technique.
The Bent-Body Hook Kick uses lateral body lean to extend the reach of the hook kick significantly beyond standard range. The lean creates a counterbalance that allows the kicking leg to travel further through its arc.
The Bent-Body Hook Kick is a specialised variant documented in cross-style kicking methodology. It represents an advanced development of the standard hook kick.
