Обзор

European weapon arts span from medieval battlefield systems to modern Olympic sport. Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) reconstructs medieval and Renaissance fighting from fight books (Fechtbucher) — German Longsword, Italian Rapier, Spanish Destreza. Olympic Fencing evolved from this tradition into a modern sport with three weapons: Foil, Epee, and Sabre. HEMA has grown explosively since the 2000s.

HEMA techniques were developed for real battlefield and judicial combat, validated through modern competitive sparring with steel weapons. Olympic fencing has diverged from combat swordsmanship but develops world-class timing and distance. Armoured combat (Battle of the Nations) is full-contact fighting in plate armor.
